Inlays & Onlays

Bloomsburg and Danville PA

Sometimes, a tooth has an area of decay that is too large for a filling but not large enough for a dental crown. In these situations, Hamilton Dental Care offers an inlay or onlay as the preferred method of treatment.

An inlay or onlay also might be used to replace a large, old filling that is now causing problems.

At Hamilton Dental Care, we use inlays and onlays made of top-quality dental porcelain or composite material. Not only are these materials extremely durable, but they can also be matched in color to the rest of your natural teeth. During your consultation, the dentist will determine which material and procedure is best for you.

Inlays vs. Onlays

A dental inlay is used when only the chewing surface of the tooth needs repair.

A dental onlay is used when a tooth has extensive damage involving multiple cusps (tiny bumps) and the chewing surface.

The advantages of inlays and onlays

  • Inlays and onlays preserve more of the natural tooth structure than a crown, which usually replaces the entire exterior of a tooth.
  • The preparation and installation of an inlay or onlay are less intrusive and takes less time than other restorative dental treatments.
  • Inlays and onlays may be less expensive than having a dental crown.

At Hamilton Dental Care, we can install inlays and onlays, as well as perform a wide variety of other restorative dental treatments and procedures. Contact our office to schedule a consultation.
